Chunky Chick Proving to be a Wild Ride

When I began Chunky Chick back in May of this year, I had no idea who it would reach nor what it's purpose was.  It was created more as an outlet for me.  I have never been one good at journaling-and when I did journal I always wrote like I was telling a story or having a dialog with some invisible person.  After-all, we always see children reading their parents journals and diaries in movies after they are dead and gone-so I figured I may as well make it a good read.  I swear...this is not made up...I am not that much of a genius.  (Or am I...)

Writing always came easy to me.  I excelled in my Writing and English classes with ease and LOVED my college News Media courses.  This was where I was able to take on the character of a sassy news reporter.  I wore red suits and clicking high heels, and carried an over-sized bag with a matchbook style notepad in it.  I was able to make up stories and events and then write in a journalistic newspaper style about it.  I aced this as you can simply imagine.  I honestly kept ALL the stories I wrote for this class so I could one day release them in a tell all book about my success as a journalist.  HAHAHA joke is on me....little did I know how poor the job market was post college grad.

I know every position I have had since graduation has given me at least one opportunity to use my writing skills and technique.  I just now noticed  I am very much a dialogue writer----like all of you are sitting here with me this very moment having this conversation.  (((nerd alert)))  Anyway, I do thoroughly enjoy writing and even if I had five consistent readers I would be THRILLED!

BUT the best news is.....since I started this little adventure three months ago, I have had over 5,200 readers and 600 repeat readers!!!! I feel like I should be up on a soap box getting a really IMPORTANT issue out to you all!  Instead, I talk about me, my life, my honest struggle with obesity, and whatever else strikes me at any given moment.  It may be a baby success but success is success no matter how big or how small!!  I feel like I should insert a quote here.....oh ok....its over there <-----------------------

When I post a new blog entry I am at my computer, in my PJs, listening to iheart.com (My80's or K103.5).  This is my ZONE.  My kids are all in bed sound asleep and I start with one thought and it continues.  I may be sipping coffee, wine or even a little H2O.  But I feel as though I am inside this little "writers shack" where no one can touch me.  I am safe to say whatever I am feeling or thinking.  So I hope that is okay with you all....and I would love for you to continue accompanying me on this wild roller coaster called my mind.

Night Chickees!  Please like and share and thanks again for spending 4.2 minutes with me!  If you haven't already browsed the rest of my Chunky Chick webpage-scroll back to the top and have a looksie.  Have a great Labor Day weekend and God Bless!

Preconceived Notions-Take Back Your Mind!

What is a preconceived notion?  This is an opinion a person forms with out evidence or facts.  When you look at a beauty queen and think she had an easy life.  When you see a man enter an airplane with a turban and you think he is blowing the place up.  When you see an oriental woman at a nail salon and you assume she works there.  Do you see what I mean?  I've done it, you've done it, our kids do it.

Why do we do this? We form judgement before we actually meet someone or encounter them in person.  Flip it though...do you think you have been a victim of this as well?  Odds are-you have.  I am a confident person but when it comes to a certain body part of mine (my thighs) I am very modest.  Because of such a large weight loss they are like cheddar biscuits from your favorite seafood restaurant.  So I catch glances and whispers at the pool and beach all the time.  The fact here is these people see a big girl with weird big legs.  They don't know the struggle I have dealt with throughout my entire life from age 15 dealing with having large legs.

I am sure if you search your memory you can relate to a similar feeling.  But dig deeper and you can probably admit to a time when it was you whispering and you casting ugly glances.  I think the key is awareness.  Be aware of the thoughts crossing your mind and cast them from your conscience before they are relayed through your senses.  I think another important thing you can do is flip those thoughts and create a positive thought.  Instead of constantly wishing you had the life of your boss-the cars, the money, the freedom---because their life is so easy and everything is handed to them...remember the stress they deal with on a daily basis, the amount of responsibility lying on their shoulders, and the years of experience that it took for them to achieve this "status."  And say something admirable about their character and say nothing about what your preconceived notion was.

We see this all the time in the news, in politics, in schools... We are entitled to an opinion but not when you are attacking an innocent persons nature and character.  I recognized how often I did this when I started asking for forgiveness for gossiping and judging.  After all, I didn't want to pray each day for the same thing and then consistently repeat these actions.  So I became aware of my thoughts responding through my mind and eyesight and I nipped it in the bud and reduced the amount of times a day I do this by 75%!

You can take control of your preconceived notions and STOP the judgement.  The world may be a a much better place if we all did so.  Let's teach our kids about what is right and not what we think is right.  Drop these and you may see a joyous and more productive life!

Question for you chickees...what is your most common preconceived notion?
