When I began Chunky Chick back in May of this year, I had no idea who it would reach nor what it's purpose was. It was created more as an outlet for me. I have never been one good at journaling-and when I did journal I always wrote like I was telling a story or having a dialog with some invisible person. After-all, we always see children reading their parents journals and diaries in movies after they are dead and gone-so I figured I may as well make it a good read. I swear...this is not made up...I am not that much of a genius. (Or am I...) Writing always came easy to me. I excelled in my Writing and English classes with ease and LOVED my college News Media courses. This was where I was able to take on the character of a sassy news reporter. I wore red suits and clicking high heels, and carried an over-sized bag with a matchbook style notepad in it. I was able to make up stories and events and then write in a journalistic newspaper style about it. I aced this as you can simply imagine. I honestly kept ALL the stories I wrote for this class so I could one day release them in a tell all book about my success as a journalist. HAHAHA joke is on me....little did I know how poor the job market was post college grad. I know every position I have had since graduation has given me at least one opportunity to use my writing skills and technique. I just now noticed I am very much a dialogue writer----like all of you are sitting here with me this very moment having this conversation. (((nerd alert))) Anyway, I do thoroughly enjoy writing and even if I had five consistent readers I would be THRILLED! BUT the best news is.....since I started this little adventure three months ago, I have had over 5,200 readers and 600 repeat readers!!!! I feel like I should be up on a soap box getting a really IMPORTANT issue out to you all! Instead, I talk about me, my life, my honest struggle with obesity, and whatever else strikes me at any given moment. It may be a baby success but success is success no matter how big or how small!! I feel like I should insert a quote here.....oh ok....its over there <----------------------- When I post a new blog entry I am at my computer, in my PJs, listening to iheart.com (My80's or K103.5). This is my ZONE. My kids are all in bed sound asleep and I start with one thought and it continues. I may be sipping coffee, wine or even a little H2O. But I feel as though I am inside this little "writers shack" where no one can touch me. I am safe to say whatever I am feeling or thinking. So I hope that is okay with you all....and I would love for you to continue accompanying me on this wild roller coaster called my mind. Night Chickees! Please like and share and thanks again for spending 4.2 minutes with me! If you haven't already browsed the rest of my Chunky Chick webpage-scroll back to the top and have a looksie. Have a great Labor Day weekend and God Bless!

Is this anthem really the truth? Do we feel stronger in groups? Powerful in the company of like-minded individuals? Just think about a time in your life where you felt like you were lonely, broken, fragile, dependent. Now think about a time when you exploded in unity, laughed in unison, cried simultaneously...it completely alleviated those other feelings! Amazing how surrounding yourself with other human beings can change the outcome of a day, a moment, a lifetime.
This has been heavy on my mind because I just came off a long workcation weekend with my husband in the Tampa, FL area for a company get together. This included 4,000 of our closest friends and business partners gathered together to share the love of our company, our triumphs, our troubles and to get a glimpse of what the future could AND WILL hold for us! It just amazed me how exuberant we left this weekend and how pumped up and business driven we had gotten SIMPLY by spending time with like-minded people within our organization. People from all over the world with different experiences within the same business! AHA! Is this clicking? We aren't comparing our bank accounts, our success, or the size of our Facebook friends list and Instagram followers. We just needed to realize success lies within each of us. How far we dig determines the depths of our success. This thought process brought me even further into the realms of my mind. Have you ever believed in God or a higher power? Have you ever been touched by the Spirit during a church service? Why do you think this is where Christ is revealed to you and you become completely unraveled? Is it because in this environment you have actually allowed yourself to be vulnerable to this sensation when out in the real world you keep your religion under wraps so that you don't cross a barrier with friends and co-workers? In this arena you are surrounded by fellow believers and those wanting to know Christ. So because you are open and you are comfortable with religion in this space-you are overwhelmed with his presence. Same idea can cross over to the support we find within family and friends. One day we are saddened by the loss of a relative, the next we are upset that someone borrowed money from grandma, next week it will be someone admitting to having an addiction, next month another has cancer. We find hope, support, understanding, coping all within the confines of our family and those close to us experiencing the same difficulties. So why is it so far fetched that this "Strength in Numbers" idea could ACTUALLY be accurate? No matter what the circumstance in life is....can we really change our outlook by leaning on people? I absolutely believe so! I mean you didn't see a hero be a hero on his own? A hero always battles a villain, Christians always battle the devil, success always battles failure, your brain always battles your heart. The hero becomes a hero by digging deep and seeing what is within him that can give him the strength to blast through barriers!! Count on those surrounding you! You can be independent but don't thrive on being alone. MUCH LOVE CHICKEES! The pretty one, the sweet one, the sarcastic one, the hypochondriac, the "mysterious" one, the snooty one, the boring one, the loose one, the hippie, the mom, the "drinks to much" one, the perfectionist, the ghetto one, the musician, the gossiping one, the wealthy one, the judgmental one, the atheist, the writer, the country bumpkin, the churchy one, the actress, the tomboy, the "hard knocked life" one, the drama queen, the annoying one, the "always super happy" one, the moaner, the positive "cup is half full" one, the stoner, the B*$#*, the dancing queen, the fat one, the pathological liar, the angel, the grouch, the virgin, the nerd...as you can see this list is long and can be much longer. We have all worn one or more of these hats in a friendship. But one thing remains...they were your friend for a reason. We need friends. We need interaction with other females that we share common interests with. We need to laugh! We need to cry! Why is it that the friendships we need and desire in life are the hardest to keep? Here is the answer---because they all need work and I would guess 65% of females refuse to do so. "Friendships don't require work. Friendships should be easy." Look back through your entire life. How many friends have you had since grade school or middle school? I'm betting that number is under 2. The reason they work for so many years is a measure of give and take. When you need me I am there, when I need you, you are here. You know everything about each other (good bad and indifferent). I believe that this measurement changes as we age because we get get bitter, we get more opinionated, we feel like we deserve more... But why? What have you done for your current friend situation that makes you so noble? Did you save her from a bullet? Did you jump in front of that car for her? Did you take the fall for her when she went to jail? Those are pretty serious instances and I am sure that most of them never happened. The reality of why your friendships end or slowly fade is that you probably are holding a grudge, that you are jealous, that you are bored, that you are annoyed, that you just plain and simple sick of their BS. Three words for you GET OVER IT. Some friends are meant to let go of...but if you feel yourself missing them, yearning to know how they are, reminiscing on all the fun you shared together---what are you waiting for? Call them! Make a lunch date! Send a card! DO NOT rely on social networking and texting to reunite you. Having friendships with women is crucial to your life and even your health believe it or not! Friends will soothe you, friends will fill voids in your life, friends will fill "emotional gaps" in relationships. If you are married with kids, having friends with children and spouses will help you relieve stress, can help reduce your blood pressure, can help you feel better when you are ill! It's all about bonding, then venting, then letting go. Friends can also help you remember who you are when life has eaten you alive. So who are you thinking of right now? Do yourself a favor and get in touch with her. Don't let something great slip between your fingers because you are too stubborn to step forward and make the first move. Be the most awesome friend! You will definitely regret those "bestie" photos 5 years from now when you despise one another if you don't repair the damage now. Think about the reasons you aren't friends anymore...how serious was it really? Don't let life and family get in the way of you maintaining friendships. Your family is there forever-you could have a friend out there that is really needing you at this moment and you are too busy being busy. Just be the type of friend you think you deserve. Then it will come back to you. Check out this video on the Female Friendship Formula! Takeaway Tips: 1. Make it a point to fit your friend in. 2. Stop obsessing over the past. 3. Stop making excuses. 4. Don't let Facebook replace face time. Thanks again for reading chickees and feel free to chime in or leave comments! Muah! |
