I wake up, rub my eyes, sit up, move my feet to the right side of the bed, put my feet down, and stand up....While my eyes are still adjusting, I don't recognize the scene around me.
Ha ha...joke is on me. Its still the first week in our new home. Yep. We moved to Texas. The Sunshine State treated us well for seven years...but the military decided to invite us on a new adventure to the Lone Star State. So we started our adventure off with our first family vacation to Disney World. Said goodbye to Navarre, FL and made our way to Orlando. For those five days we snapped a lot of photos, ate a lot of food, and spent WAY too much money. Regardless of how many tips on pinching pennies you receive from friends-you just learn from your first trip. Its pressure! Take away---spend more quality time with your family. No matter where you are or what you are doing-put the phones down and rediscover your childhood through your kids. So we arrived in Texas. We were scheduled to close on our home the Friday after our arrival but as luck would have it and since God has an outrageous sense of humor...we stuck it out in a hotel room for two weeks. And in case you aren't sure about the size of a hotel room...its approximately 20X12. Which is VERY tight when we are talking about 5 people within those perimeters. So we really got to spend some extra quality time if you catch my drift. (I managed to keep my sense of humor and my sanity). Well our first few nights on air mattresses and carpet under our new roof felt strange. In fact, up until last night it didn't even feel like our home. It has just felt like this never-ending vacation that continues to cost me tons of mulah! But now that my things, my comfort items are near me once again...its beginning to feel like home. (At least an upgraded penthouse version). Our home is every DIY and I feel like I am walking into an episode of House Hunters or Property Brothers each day. It is a great feeling. Propping my feet up and sighing "this is my home...all mine." Eventually, routine will settle and we will become used to this life in Texas. What have we learned about it so far? People are friendly (fresh baked bread delivered by a neighbor), everything is bigger (food, kids, eyelashes...you name it), you can't get anywhere without taking the interstate and whats the deal with the access roads, and geez....so much more! The kids have made it through nearly two weeks of school. Already adjusted to their new schedules, made new friends, and have totally have blown me away with their capabilities to move on. Jason has started at his new base and so far really likes the atmosphere. Julius and I have remained fairly content just getting the house situated, playing with all his toys and his new found freedom of space in his ginormous room. Although, being a SAHM (stay at home mom) again is proven to be a little more difficult than I anticipated. I feel like I am on a permanent vacation--waiting for the day to return to work. But for the time being-I will work my home business, continue my studies to get my real estate license, and simply enjoy this lazy life of chores, yoga pants, and reality tv. 2015 will be an amazing year. God has something so insatiable planned for us here that we cannot even begin to imagine. Moving is never an easy process but by continuing to take it a day at time seems to help us adjust. Can't waste time or energy on things we cannot change. And complaining never got us anywhere did it?
