Amanda Uncensored & Honest

Mombest Friend

Nope.  Not a spelling error.  My mom is my best friend.  As we get older I think many of us just begin to realize this fact.  We grow up in households of single parents, dual parents, mixed families, gay families, living-with-grandparents family...  No matter, we find one and cling to them for the life of us!

That was (is) my momma.  My parents divorced before I was two years old so I wouldn't say it was a preference thing.  It was a I-guess-shes-feeding-me type arrangement- turned only parent.  I had two sisters and the biggest family imaginable so don't think this is a loveless sob story.   Through every trip and fall, birthday parties where none of my friends showed up, basketball games lost, life changes...she was my constant.  Regardless of how many hours she worked that day she would let me curl up next to her and just lay and rest my worries on her.  She may not always remember what those moments meant to me but they were priceless.

Having my own daughter who is now a teenager really makes me think about the consequences of our actions as parents.  We have to be sensitive and a disciplinarian.  We have to be good cop and bad cop.  Well my mom wore her badges well.  I don't know how she did it but I was always terrified of her.  I will never forget the first time she heard me swear.  I said shit when I was 15.  She raised her brows and said "AMAANNDDAA."  Still gives me the creeps.

Regardless of how many commodity lines we stood in, how much used furniture we accumulated, how many hand me downs we shared.... We always had food, shelter, clothing...and in all honesty I think we had it pretty well even if she would try to tell us otherwise now.  We were kids that didn't know any better.  Hey, we were fat kids so I know we had something!

My mom and I can see each other and just break into tears.  We can sit in a truck and put on shiny hats and laugh until we pee.  We can walk past someone and look right at each other because we know we just had the same thought.  It is insane how much we are alike (and different).  Bestest buds forever!

The best memories are still being formed.  We went to Vegas together for my 35th birthday in December.  That was one of the best trips of my life and it happened to be with my mombest friend.  Here's a snippet.
This woman is a gem.  Works hard, loves deeply, cares tremendously...but don't get that twisted she will throw down for her kin (even with her gimp).   Haha.  Mom, we tease you because we love you.  I miss you bunches and want you to know that just because I don't call daily and answer your texts within a nano second doesn't mean I love you  less.  I hope that everyone takes full advantage of having their loved ones still here.  Call your parents!  Tell them you love and miss them.

XOXOXOXO-Amanda
